Natural Hair High Bun With Kanekalon Braid

Dislcaimer: This is not a review of the Sensationnel Synthetic Kanekalon Braids African Collection - Super Reggae. I am always in search of protective styles that will lessen my manipulation (combing, brushing, styling) of my hair while at the same time, keep it healthy, easily accessible and growing. As an undergraduate student, this is especially important to me because I DO NOT HAVE TIME to be styling my hair every day! Back when I had straightened (chemically relaxed) hair in my first year of school, I installed a weave which was okay, but I did not maintain it as I should have, so after about a month or two, I removed it.
Since going natural in September 2014, I have been searching off and on for protective styles that would suit my temperament, lifestyle and face. After months of contemplating and visiting wig stores, I finally bought my first wig last month. While I do wear it, I wanted to achieve a more natural look with my protective styling, and came across the Kanekalon braid. I bought one packet of the hair at a local hair and beauty supplies store.

My application of the hair was simple. I wanted an updo that would protect my ends, keep my hair in an easy-to-maintain style, and so I used the hair to make a high bun.
Steps: 1. I styled my moisturized hair into a high updo with a simple scrunchy. 2. After taking the hair out of the packet, I cut off the rubber band that comes with the hair. 3. I plaited about 2 inches of the hair at one of the ends. It doesn't matter which end, they are both the same. 4. I stuck a hairpin through the plait, and used that to stick at the base of my ponytail. 5. I carefully wrapped the hair around my ponytail, hiding as much of my natural hair as possible IMPORTANT: I did not twist the hair as I was wrapping it around my hair. I kept it as flat as possible. 6. When I got to the end of the hair, I twisted it in my hand to make a thin piece 7. I simply tucked that thin end of hair under my bun to secure it (no need for a hair clip)
